Frequently Asked Questions

Ostoform Seal with FLOWASSIST Protection

If using a regular seal, the stoma output can spill and overflow onto the skin causing damage and irritation. However, because the Ostoform Seal has a non-absorbent spout this ensures that the output flows away from the skin and into the pouch.

Yes. The Ostoform Seal can be used with either a flat or convex pouch.

We recommend that you apply the Ostoform Seal directly around your stoma to ensure a secure and accurate fit, though in some cases, the Seal may be applied to the pouch first.

We recommend you begin by holding the spout and positioning the Seal accurately underneath your stoma. You can then mold, wrap and overlap the arms of the Seal around your stoma to ensure a snug and secure fit.

Yes. Due to the non-absorbent spout protecting the absorbent seal, the Ostoform Seal should last longer than regular seals. In a recent study, 71% of participants stated that the Ostoform Seal lasted longer than their current seal.

  1. Cut the wafer opening to your stoma size +5mm / ¼ inch in diameter to accommodate FLOWASSIST.
  2. Wash your hands and ensure the skin around your stoma is clean and dry.
  3. Position the FLOWASSIST spout below the stoma or rotate to align with the opening of the stoma. You can hold the spout to help position the Seal.
  4. Wrap the ends of the Seal adhesive around the stoma ensuring the ends overlap.
  5. Ensure the FLOWASSIST spout is fully inside the pouch opening, then pull the pouch or baseplate up underneath the spout as far as it will go.
  6. Apply light pressure to the pouch to achieve secure adhesion.

Yes. The Ostoform Seal can be used with either a one or two-piece pouch.

Small 15-23mm (½” – 1”)

Medium 23-30 mm (1” – 1 ¼”)

Large 30-40 mm (1 ¼” – 1 ½”)

There are 10 Ostoform Seals in each box.

No. Due to the use of a next generation hydrocolloid, which does not disintegrate easily, little or no residue should be left.

The Ostoform Seal is designed to minimise the risk of material breakdown by introducing a non-absorbent layer that directs the flow of stoma output away from your skin and into your pouch. This prevents it from being absorbed in towards your skin, as with standard ostomy seals.

2 Piece Pouches with FLOWASSIST Protection

No. The Ostoform 2-piece pouch and Ostoform Seal cannot be worn simultaneously.

The FLOWASSIST Spout is made from a soft and flexible polymer to ensure comfort for the user.

The FLOWASSIST Spout is designed to be discreet. It will not cause the pouch to bulge.

The Ostoform FLOWASSIST baseplate is not compatible with other pouch brands.

Yes, the Baseplate is designed to work with oval shaped stomas. The user should cut the opening as close to the stoma size and shape as possible, while not cutting the FLOWASSIST spout. Accessories such as barrier sheets, paste, etc. can be used to fill any gaps.

There is inner protection integrated in the baseplate where the Spout is located, from approximately 4 – 8 o’clock around the opening, which will protect the underlying hydrocolloid in this critical region.

Gravity will be the same for any ostomy appliance, however with Ostoform FLOWASSIST the non-absorbent piece will still protect the skin even when laying down.
